Four men have been sentenced to a combined 110 years in prison for robbing a 48-year-old priestess at her shrine in Baamang, near Kumasi.
The victim, identified as Okomfuo Serwah, was reportedly carrying out her spiritual duties when the attackers stormed the shrine. According to details presented in court, the group made away with GH¢8,800 during the raid.
Beyond the theft, the convicts were also accused of desecrating the shrine, an act that has sparked concern among residents in the area, where traditional worship remains deeply respected.
The incident, which occurred in Baamang in the Ashanti Region, left many in the community shaken, with locals describing it as both a criminal act and a cultural affront.
Authorities say the sentencing is intended to serve as a strong deterrent to others who may contemplate similar crimes, particularly those targeting vulnerable individuals and sacred spaces.
