Tragedy has struck a Ghanaian family in Spain after identical twin brothers were found dead in a river following a search for the missing children. The 11-year-old boys are believed to have drowned in the Ter River in Manlleu, near Barcelona, after they failed to return home from playing football on Monday, July 13, 2026.

Search Ends In Tragedy

According to Spanish media reports published on July 14, 2026, the twins left home at dusk to play football but never returned, prompting their father to report them missing to the police.

Authorities launched a large-scale search involving local police and emergency responders, with officers focusing on the area where the boys had last been seen playing.

Investigators later found clothing matching what the brothers had reportedly been wearing near the river, strengthening fears that they may have entered the water.

The search ended in tragedy when officers recovered the first body from the Ter River at about 1:00 pm. The second body was found about an hour later, at around 2:00 pm, from the riverbed nearby.

The description of the two missing brothers matched the bodies recovered from the water.

Police Suspect Accidental Drowning

The bodies have been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Catalonia for autopsies and formal identification.

Although post-mortem examinations have not yet been completed, investigators currently believe the brothers died in an accidental drowning.

Police have nevertheless opened an investigation to establish exactly how the incident occurred and whether any other factors contributed to the tragedy.

The deaths have shocked both the local community in Manlleu and Ghanaians following developments from abroad. Investigators are expected to determine the precise sequence of events that led to the brothers’ deaths.
