Six people have been arrested after students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti Region allegedly attacked their headteacher, Abdullai Zakari, during a violent disturbance at the school.
The arrests follow an incident in which students reportedly confronted the headteacher over claims that a baby had been buried on the school campus, leading to an attack that left him hospitalised and school property damaged.

Police Arrest Six After Obuasi SHS Violence
The Obuasi Municipal Police Command has commenced investigations into the incident, with six people reportedly arrested in connection with the unrest.
The headteacher sustained multiple injuries during the attack and is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
Police officers were deployed to the school to restore calm and prevent further escalation after some students allegedly vandalised property, including items at the headteacher’s bungalow.
The Head of the Obuasi Municipal Security Council, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, together with senior police officers, visited the school and appealed to students to remain calm.
The Obuasi Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Mahama Iddrisu, also assured students of maximum protection from the police as investigations continue.

How The Obuasi SHS Incident Escalated
The incident reportedly started between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. after a student allegedly spotted the headteacher’s vehicle near the school’s refuse dump.
The student reportedly raised an alarm, prompting other students to move to the area where they claimed to have discovered a buried baby believed to be between five and six months old.
The claim angered some students, who confronted the headteacher over the allegation and allegedly assaulted him.
Police later arrived at the school and reportedly exhumed the body before depositing it at a morgue as part of ongoing investigations.
However, authorities have not yet confirmed the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death or established any link between the headteacher and the burial.
Some first-year students were also reportedly attacked after senior students accused them of supporting the headteacher during the confrontation.

Police Probe Assault, Property Damage And Burial Claim
The investigation is expected to focus on several issues, including the alleged assault on the headteacher, the destruction of school property and the circumstances surrounding the baby found on the school grounds.
Authorities will also have to determine whether additional people were involved in the disturbance and whether further arrests will be made.
The case highlights the challenges schools face when allegations spread quickly among students and develop into unrest before authorities can establish the facts.
For now, the claims surrounding the alleged burial remain allegations as police continue their investigation.
