Thousands of MTN fibre broadband users across Ghana are set to enjoy significantly cheaper internet after Communications Minister Sam George announced a major reduction in broadband prices following engagements between government and MTN Ghana.

The price cut, which takes immediate effect, will see customers who previously paid GH¢987 for a one-month unlimited 100 Mbps package now pay just GH¢299. The move is expected to bring relief to households, businesses, remote workers, students and content creators who depend on reliable high-speed internet.
MTN Fibre Broadband Prices Reduced
Announcing the development in a social media post on Wednesday, June 17, Sam George described the reduction as a direct response to public calls for more affordable internet services.
“Effective today, fibre broadband prices have crashed,” he wrote.
Under the new pricing structure, customers can now subscribe to:
- Unlimited 100 Mbps fibre broadband for GH¢299 per month
- Unlimited 300 Mbps fibre broadband for GH¢444 per month
- Unlimited 500 Mbps fibre broadband for GH¢999 per month
The revised rates represent one of the most significant reductions in fibre broadband prices in recent years.
Sam George Credits Engagement With MTN Ghana
According to the minister, the reduction follows discussions between the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and MTN Ghana aimed at improving internet affordability.
“You demanded. We engaged. MTN Ghana has responded,” he stated.
Mr George also commended the telecommunications company for responding positively to concerns raised by consumers and government.
“I want to express my gratitude to the management and staff of MTN who have heeded our call for more affordable, stable and reliable fibre broadband,” he said.
Why The Price Cut Matters
The reduction comes at a time when demand for high-speed internet continues to grow across Ghana.
Many households now rely on broadband connections for streaming, online learning and everyday communication. Businesses, meanwhile, depend on stable internet services to serve customers, process transactions and run digital operations.
For remote workers and content creators, lower broadband costs could translate into significant monthly savings while improving access to faster internet speeds.
The announcement is therefore expected to be welcomed by many consumers who have long complained about the cost of reliable broadband services.

Sam George indicated that the ministry would continue engaging telecommunications operators to secure better deals for consumers.
“From the Ministry, we will continue to push for better service packages for the Ghanaian people,” he noted.
The minister said the government remains committed to improving digital access and ensuring that more Ghanaians can benefit from affordable and reliable internet services.
MTN Yet To Release Detailed Package Information
Although the new pricing has been announced by the minister, MTN Ghana is yet to issue a detailed statement outlining the revised packages and any accompanying terms and conditions.
Customers are therefore expected to watch for further updates from the telecommunications provider regarding eligibility requirements, installation processes and package availability.
For many internet users, however, the announcement already represents welcome news as the cost of accessing high-speed broadband continues to fall.
