The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has published details of 30 Ghanaians who are either facing deportation or have already been deported from the country as part of an ongoing immigration enforcement exercise targeting convicted offenders.
The list forms part of a broader release by US authorities highlighting 355 West African immigrants whose cases involve criminal convictions. According to the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the publication is intended to showcase what it described as some of the most serious criminal offenders identified for removal proceedings.
Among the Ghanaians named is socialite and musician Mona Montrage, widely known as Haji4Reall, who was recently deported to Ghana after serving time in the United States over a romance fraud case.
DHS Explains Purpose of Deportation List
In a statement accompanying the publication, the Department of Homeland Security said the list was designed to demonstrate the agency’s efforts to remove foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes.
The notice stated:
“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is highlighting the worst of the worst criminal aliens arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).”
The agency added that ICE officers are carrying out deportation operations under directives aimed at removing individuals convicted of crimes ranging from fraud and drug-related offences to violent criminal activity.
According to DHS, the initiative aligns with broader immigration enforcement measures being pursued across the United States.
Haji4Reall Included on ICE List
One of the most recognisable Ghanaian names on the list is Haji4Reall.
The ICE records indicate that the Ghanaian entertainer appeared on the list due to a fraud-related conviction. The details also show that she was arrested in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before subsequently being deported to Ghana.
Her inclusion has attracted significant public attention because of her celebrity status in Ghana’s entertainment industry and the extensive media coverage surrounding her legal troubles in the United States.
What the List Contains
The publication includes photographs, names and details of offences linked to the individuals identified by US immigration authorities.
DHS says the release is intended to provide transparency regarding deportation efforts and to highlight cases involving individuals convicted of serious criminal offences.
While the agency has focused on those it describes as the “worst of the worst”, immigration enforcement and deportation policies continue to generate debate in the United States and internationally, particularly regarding due process, immigration reform and the treatment of undocumented migrants.
