A marriage between two Ghanaian pastors has taken a dramatic turn after the husband demanded GH¢40,000 in compensation from his ex-wife, claiming she ended their union barely a month after their wedding.
Prophet Kwadwo, whose former wife has been identified as Prophetess Happy of the Christ Apostolic Church, made the claims during an appearance on Oyrepa Afutuo, a relationship and domestic affairs programme aired on May 8, 2026.
According to him, the relationship began after he met Prophetess Happy through another pastor’s church. He said he later took her number, contacted her and proposed marriage, which she accepted.
However, what was expected to be a lifelong union reportedly collapsed shortly after the wedding ceremony.
Pastor Says He Took GH¢30,000 Loan For Wedding
Narrating his side of the story, Prophet Kwadwo disclosed that he took a GH¢30,000 loan to finance the wedding, hoping the couple would recover financially through donations and support received during the ceremony.
“When I took the loan, I believed that after the wedding I would be able to pay back through the money that we will get but she did not support me financially in any way,” he said.
The pastor alleged that cracks in the marriage became visible on the wedding day itself after disagreements emerged between both families over food arrangements. According to him, Prophetess Happy became upset during the confusion and openly expressed regrets about the marriage.
“She told me it was I who wanted to marry her, so I had to bear all the expenses myself,” he claimed.
‘She Wanted To Leave Before The Wedding’
Prophet Kwadwo further stated that his former wife had informed him a week before the ceremony that she no longer wanted to continue with the marriage and preferred they separated.
Despite the warning signs, the wedding still went ahead.
Following the collapse of the marriage, the pastor is now demanding GH¢40,000 as compensation.
Prophetess Happy Responds
But Prophetess Happy has rejected the idea that she alone should compensate her former husband.
Reacting on the same programme, she argued that if compensation is being demanded over the failed marriage, then she too deserves compensation because they had sexual relations as husband and wife.
“He has also slept with me, so if he is demanding compensation, then I will also demand compensation for sleeping with me,” she said.
Sharing her side of the story, Prophetess Happy accused Prophet Kwadwo of treating her poorly during the short-lived marriage. She alleged that he sometimes travelled without informing her and engaged in behaviour that contributed to her decision to walk away from the relationship.
Although she indicated willingness to pay compensation, she maintained that any such arrangement should also take her grievances into account.
