Ibrahim Mahama has pledged to support a Ghanaian returnee with a fully funded business startup after the man was evacuated from South Africa over xenophobic attacks.
The gesture, disclosed by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has drawn praise from many Ghanaians on social media, with several people commending the businessman for helping Emmanuel Asamoah rebuild his life.
Mr Asamoah recently went viral after a disturbing video showed him allegedly being harassed during renewed xenophobic tensions in South Africa. The footage sparked concern online and renewed discussions about the safety of African migrants living in the country.
Following the incident, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, facilitated his return home and assured the public that all costs connected to the relocation would be covered.

Providing an update after hosting Mr Asamoah at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ablakwa said the meeting was uplifting and encouraging.
“Yesterday, I joyfully hosted Mr Emmanuel Asamoah, Ghana’s victim of xenophobia we relocated from South Africa. We had a great time together at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he said.
The minister further revealed that Ibrahim Mahama had personally reached out with an offer to sponsor any business venture Mr Asamoah decides to pursue in Ghana.
“I am pleased to disclose that business mogul, Mr Ibrahim Mahama, has reached out to me and offered to fully sponsor any business startup of Mr Asamoah’s choice here in Ghana,” he added.
The latest intervention has been widely welcomed online, with many describing it as a life-changing opportunity for the Ghanaian returnee.
