The Ghana Police Service has arrested six individuals, including a chief, in connection with the murder of the queen mother of Abamba in the Atebubu area of the Bono East Region.
The queen mother, Nana Serwaa Asaama Agyankoma, was shot dead on 26 February 2026 during what investigators described as a suspected robbery attack at her residence in Atebubu. The incident shocked residents and renewed concerns about violent crimes targeting prominent traditional figures in parts of Ghana.
Police say the arrests form part of ongoing investigations into the killing, which sparked grief and outrage within the Abamba community and beyond.

According to police accounts, Nana Serwaa Asaama Agyankoma was attacked at her home by armed assailants who reportedly stormed the premises during the night. She sustained gunshot wounds and later died from her injuries.
The murder drew widespread condemnation from residents, traditional authorities, and community leaders, many of whom called for swift justice and improved security in the area.
Although the Ghana Police Service has yet to publicly disclose the identities of all six suspects, the inclusion of a chief among those arrested is likely to intensify public attention surrounding the case.
