Popular Ghanaian herbal doctor Dr Amegashie has caused the arrest of four staff members at his Amegashie Herbal Clinic in Kasoa. He alleges they diverted about GH¢5 million in hospital funds into their personal accounts.
Dr Amegashie says the suspects created a separate register to record payments from some patients. Instead of entering the transactions into the clinic’s official records, they allegedly kept the money for themselves.
The allegations have raised concerns about financial accountability and internal controls in private healthcare institutions. They also highlight the wider challenge of employee theft in the private sector.
How the Alleged Scheme Was Discovered
Speaking to the media, Dr Amegashie alleged that some staff members at the Kasoa facility maintained an unofficial register alongside the clinic’s official records.
He claimed the suspects recorded some patient payments in that register and diverted the money into their personal accounts.
He estimates that the total amount involved is about GH¢5 million.
Dr Amegashie Laments Growing Cases of Employee Theft
Reacting to the incident, the herbal practitioner said many private sector employers continue to struggle with employee theft.
He expressed surprise that the suspects are nursing graduates awaiting government postings.
He explained that he offered them jobs because thousands of qualified nursing graduates remain at home while waiting for public sector recruitment.

Dr Amegashie urged young people to reject greed and the desire for quick wealth.
He stressed that people achieve lasting success through hard work, honesty and patience.
The unhappy herbalist also disclosed that the four suspects are in police custody. Authorities are expected to put them before a court on Friday.
