A Ghanaian police officer, General Lance Corporal Nicholas Oheneampong Kissi, has urged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to investigate alleged criminal activities at the Mataheko and Odorkor Police Barracks, including a claim that ammunition is being supplied to armed robbers.

Kissi, Service No. 43818, made the allegations in a video shared on Instagram by Daily View GH. He also shared a separate video showing himself receiving treatment at a hospital following what he described as injuries sustained during an alleged assault by fellow officers.

Officer alleges ammunition is being supplied to armed robbers

Kissi alleged that the current Station Officer was involved in supplying ammunition to armed robbers who, he claimed, intended to attack civilians and fellow police officers.

“Per my intel, I informed the administration on record. I put this on record: the current Station Officer, per my intel, is selling ammunition to armed robbers to go and kill their own fellow police officers and to attack civilians,” Kissi alleged.

He did not provide direct evidence in the video to substantiate the allegation.

Instead, Kissi called for an audit of the officer and relevant operations, saying an investigation would establish whether the information he had received was accurate.

“I keep on saying it, he should be audited so that we can find the truth in this information given to me,” he said.

The allegation has not been independently verified and should not be treated as an established finding of wrongdoing unless supported by an official investigation or other credible evidence.

Officer shares hospital video after alleged assault

Kissi also shared a video showing himself receiving treatment at a hospital after what he described as injuries sustained during the alleged assault by fellow officers.

In the video, he displayed what appeared to be a medical report and said he was taking the document to the Odorkor Police Station.

Kissi believes the alleged assault was linked to his decision to speak publicly about what he says are criminal activities at the two police facilities.

“One slapped me twice, and they scratched my skin and tore my buttons and shirt,” he alleged.

The medical document adds some supporting context to Kissi’s account of receiving treatment, but Audity News has not independently verified its contents or established how the injuries were sustained or who was responsible.

Why the allegations require investigation

The allegation involving ammunition is particularly serious because it concerns the alleged diversion of police resources to armed criminals.

If substantiated, such conduct could raise questions about ammunition controls, accountability and security within the affected police facilities.

An investigation would need to establish whether ammunition was missing or improperly accounted for, whether any officer supplied ammunition to criminal groups, and whether there is evidence supporting Kissi’s other allegations.

It could also determine whether previous complaints were formally recorded and what action, if any, was taken after they were raised.

Kissi’s claims alone do not establish that any officer committed the alleged offences. They remain allegations requiring verification by the appropriate authorities.

Ghana Police Service yet to respond

The Ghana Police Service is yet to publicly respond to Kissi’s allegations or issue a statement addressing the claims about activities at the Mataheko and Odorkor Police Barracks.

Audity News has also not independently verified the allegations against the officers.

The Police Service and any officers named or implicated by the allegations should have an opportunity to respond to the claims.

For now, the central question is whether the allegations will trigger a formal investigation and whether the findings will be made public.
