Nigerian comedian Parrot Mouth has reacted strongly after a Nigerian national was arrested in connection with a foiled armed robbery operation targeting three banks in Labone, Accra.
The suspect, identified by the Ghana Police Service as Augustine Okechuku Maazi, was arrested on Thursday, August 13, 2026, after police received intelligence that a gang was preparing to attack GCB Bank, Ecobank and Zenith Bank in Labone.
Parrot Mouth said Nigerians living in Ghana should not engage in criminal activities that could damage the image of the wider Nigerian community.
“Have you ever heard of a Ghanaian man being involved in armed robbery in Nigeria? Nigerians in Ghana should stop tarnishing the image of Nigerians. It is better to beg for money than engage in armed robbery.”
He questioned why anyone would take a gun and engage in daylight robbery in Ghana, describing such conduct as damaging to Nigerians living in the country.

What happened during the Labone robbery attempt
The Ghana Police Service said the operation followed intelligence received at about 10:45am on Thursday about a suspected plan to attack three banks in Labone.
“The Ghana Police Service today arrested one suspect of a robbery syndicate and gunned down two others for planned robbery attempts on some banks in Labone, Accra,” the Police Service said in a statement.
According to the police, officers moved to intercept the suspects after receiving the intelligence.
One of the vehicles reportedly sped away after its occupants spotted the police. Officers gave chase and arrested Maazi, while another occupant managed to escape.

The occupants of a second vehicle also allegedly attempted to flee. Police said the suspects engaged officers in a shoot-out, resulting in the deaths of two suspects.
The three banks identified by police as the intended targets were GCB Bank, Ecobank and Zenith Bank, all located in Labone.
Police said they recovered two vehicles from the operation: a Toyota Highlander with registration number GS-1434-18 and a Hyundai Tucson with registration number GS-7915-17.
A blow pistol was also recovered.
Maazi remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations, while the bodies of the two deceased suspects have been deposited at the morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy.
The police statement did not identify the two deceased suspects by name or state their nationalities.
