A police inspector is under intense public scrutiny after being accused of sexually abusing his biological teenage daughter, impregnating her and allegedly forcing her to terminate the pregnancy, in a case that has triggered calls for immediate arrest and thorough investigation.
The allegations were made by the victim’s mother, who gave a detailed account of what she described as years of abuse suffered by the girl while living with her father in Garu in the Upper East Region.
According to the mother, the girl moved in with her father at the age of 10 after he insisted he would take full responsibility for her upbringing.
“My daughter’s grandmother called me to bring her, so I took her to Agona. Later, she called again and said her son had returned and wanted to take the child with him,” she said in an interview with crimechecknewsgh.com.
She explained that before that arrangement, the suspect had played little to no role in the child’s life.
“He saw my daughter when she was about 18 months old when I visited him in the North. After that, he never met her again and wasn’t taking care of her,” she recounted.
Although she initially resisted, she said she later agreed after the father assured her the child would be properly cared for.
The mother said she maintained regular contact with her daughter but gradually noticed troubling changes in her behaviour.
“We used to talk on the phone, but I realised my daughter wasn’t herself. Anytime I asked her what was wrong, she would say she was okay,” she said.
After about four years, she travelled to Garu to visit her daughter and said she immediately sensed something was not right.
“She insisted on coming back with me, but she wouldn’t tell me the reason,” she narrated.
However, she alleged that the father strongly opposed the move and threatened to disown the girl if she left.
“When I told the father, he vowed that he would cut her off and disown her from his children if I took her away, so I left her there,” she said.
According to her, the situation escalated after the girl later returned to Agona. A teacher reportedly raised concerns after noticing a decline in the student’s performance and behaviour.
“One day, her teacher called me and said I should leave whatever I was doing and come because something seemed wrong with my child. She had become dull in school and anytime they asked her what the problem was, she would just cry without saying anything,” she recounted.
The mother further alleged that she later received a distressing late-night phone call.
“The caller told me my daughter was being chased by her father in the middle of the night because she refused to sleep with him,” she said.
She added that she travelled immediately to the town, informed the father that she intended to take the girl away, and was allegedly threatened.
“I travelled to the town and called her father to inform him I was taking her out of town, and he threatened to kill me if I step foot there. I confronted him over what I had heard and he denied the allegation,” she narrated.
The mother said she later picked up her daughter from school and reported the matter at the Agona Jamasi Police Station, where she was issued a medical form to take the girl to the hospital.
She further alleged that the girl later confirmed she had undergone an abortion after the father discovered she was pregnant.
According to her, the suspect allegedly inserted a substance into the girl’s private part, causing severe bleeding, in what she believes was an attempt to terminate the pregnancy.
She said the abuse allegedly began when the girl first moved in with her father at age 10 and continued for more than four years.
The allegations have sparked outrage and renewed calls for the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly, investigate the claims thoroughly, and ensure that justice is served if the accusations are substantiated.
Child protection advocates say the case, if proven, would represent one of the most serious breaches of parental trust and professional misconduct, and are urging authorities to treat it with urgency.
At the time of filing this report, there had been no official confirmation of arrest, interdiction, or criminal charges against the officer, even as public pressure mounts for decisive action.
