A Nigerian man has allegedly been killed in Tamale following a dispute over suspected cyberfraud proceeds, with Ghana Police arresting two of his compatriots as they allegedly attempted to flee the country. What happened
The Northern Regional Police Command said the body of 36-year-old Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze was discovered in his bedroom at Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
According to police, officers responding to the scene found the deceased with a deep cut wound to his forehead and a towel stuffed into his mouth. His bedroom had also been ransacked, prompting investigators to treat the incident as a suspected homicide.
Police identified the two suspects as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, both Nigerian nationals. They were arrested at Tatale near the Ghana-Togo border following an intelligence-led operation while they were allegedly attempting to cross into neighbouring Togo.
Investigators also recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, along with other items that have been sent for forensic examination.
The victim’s body was conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed him dead. It has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national identified as Godwin Nwafor.

Police allege dispute over suspected cyberfraud proceeds
According to a statement from the Northern Regional Police Command, the two suspects allegedly admitted during interrogation that they conspired to kill the deceased following a dispute over proceeds from suspected internet fraud activities.
Police said a search conducted after their arrest led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from the deceased’s room.
The recovered exhibits include mobile phones, laptops, a tablet, jewellery, wristwatches, clothing and personal documents, all of which have been retained to support ongoing investigations.
The allegations form part of the police investigation and are yet to be tested before the court.

The suspects remain in police custody and are scheduled to appear before a court in Tamale on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Police said investigations are continuing, including forensic examinations and efforts to retrieve relevant CCTV footage that could assist the case.
The Northern Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to volunteer credible information that may assist investigators, assuring residents that anyone found to have played a role in the alleged crime would be brought to justice.
