Sarkodie has opened up about his long-standing relationship with fellow Ghanaian music star Shatta Wale, describing him as a sincere person who remains committed to his beliefs, even when others disagree with him.
Speaking on the Afrobeats Podcast, the award-winning rapper reflected on their friendship, past misunderstandings and the unique personality traits that have defined Shatta Wale throughout the years.
According to Sarkodie, although he and the dancehall musician have very different temperaments, they have always enjoyed a genuine relationship whenever they spend time together.
Sarkodie Says Shatta Wale Is Unapologetically Honest
The rapper said one of the qualities he admires most about Shatta Wale is his willingness to openly express his views without worrying about how they will be received.
“I see somebody who’s extremely sincere. Even when I know he’s wrong, he stands by it. That’s what he believes in, and he’s going to say it.”
Sarkodie explained that this contrasts sharply with his own personality. While he prefers to address issues quietly or through actions, Shatta Wale is more likely to voice his opinions publicly and directly.
He revealed that their contrasting styles often complemented each other in the past.
“If somebody was messing about, I would text him. If I go and say it, it’s a problem, but he can say it and get away with it.”
Why Sarkodie and Shatta Wale Approach Issues Differently
According to the rapper, Shatta Wale has always been someone who speaks his mind instantly, while he prefers private conversations and diplomacy.
Sarkodie noted that when conflicts arise, he usually seeks dialogue and understanding, whereas Shatta Wale is more inclined to publicly call out issues.
“He doesn’t have the time to call you to sit down. He’s going to blast you later,” Sarkodie said jokingly.
Despite this difference, he emphasised that he understands Shatta Wale’s personality and does not take many of his public outbursts personally.
Sarkodie Explains The Real Source Of Their Past Disagreements
Addressing speculation about previous tensions between them, Sarkodie insisted that their disagreements were never rooted in personal attacks or comments made by Shatta Wale.
Instead, he said many of the frustrations stemmed from creative projects and professional plans that failed to materialise.
Reflecting on the past, he cited the lack of a music video for their collaboration “Megye Wo Girl” as an example of the type of issue that frustrated him.
According to Sarkodie, his disappointment often came from unfulfilled plans rather than any personal conflict.
“It was never because of something he said. It was because we were supposed to do something and we couldn’t get it done.”
From Bandana Days To Today: A Friendship Built On Mutual Respect
Sarkodie also revealed that his admiration for Shatta Wale goes back many years, even before the dancehall star rose to prominence under his current stage name.
He recalled enjoying Shatta Wale’s freestyle performances during his Bandana era and said he has always respected his creativity and talent.
The rapper further described himself as one of the biggest fans of the side of Shatta Wale that many people misunderstand.
According to him, some of the musician’s controversial online posts are often less serious than they appear, despite how intensely they may be perceived by the public.
“I go on TikTok and laugh because I know he’s not serious,” Sarkodie said.
His comments offer a rare glimpse into one of Ghana’s most talked-about relationships in the music industry, highlighting a bond built on mutual respect, understanding and years of shared experiences despite occasional public disagreements.
