Ghanaian musician Adane Best has revealed how a goat unknowingly saved his life during a devastating flood in Accra 26 years ago after it was electrocuted by a live power cable moments before he followed the same path. He shared the emotional story during an interview on Joy Prime on Tuesday, July 1, while discussing the recent floods that have claimed lives across parts of Ghana.

How Adane Best Escaped Death During The Chorkor Flood
Speaking with Andy Dosty, Adane Best recalled that the incident happened in Chorkor in 1996 after hours of heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in the area.
He said floodwaters quickly engulfed his home, forcing him to leave in search of safer ground.
“I was staying at Chorkor at the time. Heavy rains caused the area to become flooded, destroying people’s properties. My house got flooded and the waters were rising fast, so I decided to get out of there,” he recounted.
As he stood outside looking for the safest route through the floodwaters, he noticed a goat nearby appearing to do the same.
Both seemed to identify what looked like the safest path. The goat stepped into the water first.
According to Adane Best, neither of them realised that an electricity cable had broken off a nearby pole and fallen into the flooded area.
“The moment the goat went ahead of me into the water, it got electrocuted and died on the spot. I saw that and quickly took another route,” he said.
He believes the shocking incident prevented him from walking into the same danger.
“It was after that I realised that it could have been me if not for that goat. God had used the goat to warn me and save my life,” he added.

Why His Story Resonates Today
Adane Best shared the experience as conversations continue around the widespread flooding that struck parts of Ghana after prolonged rainfall from June 28 to June 29.
The floods affected communities across the Greater Accra, Central, Western and Volta regions, submerging homes and roads, overflowing drains and sweeping away vehicles and other property. More than a dozen people have died, while rescue and relief operations continue.
President John Mahama has since directed the release of GH¢300 million to support emergency response and recovery efforts.
Although his experience happened nearly three decades ago, Adane Best said it remains one of the clearest moments in his life where he believes divine intervention spared him from tragedy.
