Public anger is mounting after a member of the Council of State, identified as Maxwell Boakye, was accused of ordering the demolition of a neighbour’s house at East Legon in Accra.
The incident, which has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, reportedly involved the destruction of a house that had reportedly stood in the area for nearly two decades.
Critics are now calling on John Dramani Mahama to intervene and call the Western Regional representative of the Council of State to order over what many have described as an abuse of power.
Video of demolished house sparks outrage
The controversy gained national attention after Selorm Branttie of IMANI Africa shared a video online showing heaps of debris believed to be from the demolished property.

In a strongly worded post directed at President Mahama, Branttie accused Maxwell Boakye, popularly known as “Palasco”, of terrorising residents on Nii Torgbor Street in East Legon.
According to him, the demolition was allegedly carried out because the Council of State member wanted extra space for a tennis court and car park after putting up a large white mansion on his own plot.
“Dear President John Dramani Mahama, your Council of State member with the nickname Palasco has made himself the terror of Nii Torgbor Street in East Legon,” part of the post read.
Branttie further alleged that land guards were deployed to intimidate residents during the exercise, while the aide of the Council of State member reportedly filmed individuals who attempted to challenge the demolition.
Claims of assault and intimidation
The controversy deepened after allegations emerged that the owner of the demolished property was assaulted during the incident.
According to Branttie, the homeowner, who allegedly watched helplessly as the structure was pulled down, was punched in the face by men said to be acting on the orders of Maxwell Boakye.

He also accused the official’s personal assistant of threatening residents who attempted to intervene.
Branttie described the incident as a disturbing abuse of power and questioned whether such a person should be involved in advising the President on matters of national importance.
“This isn’t just evil, it is symptomatic of how depraved our society has become that only rich people seem to have rights,” he wrote.
Social media users demand action
The video and accompanying allegations have since gone viral, triggering heated reactions across social media platforms.
Many users have called on President Mahama to investigate the matter and take disciplinary action against Maxwell Boakye if the allegations are proven true.
Others have urged the victim to pursue legal action, insisting that no public official should be allowed to act above the law.
Some critics also questioned the conduct and influence of the 33-year-old Council of State member, accusing him of using power and wealth to intimidate ordinary residents.
As of the time of filing this report, Maxwell Boakye has not publicly responded to the allegations.
