Akwatia Member of Parliament Bernard Bediako Baidoo has claimed that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is investigating NPP communicator Dennis Miracles Aboagye over alleged fraud linked to his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation. His remarks come after Mr Aboagye’s arrest and detention by EOCO, a development that has sparked reactions from members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Why the MP Claims Dennis Miracles Aboagye Is Under Investigation
Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam, Mr Bediako said Mr Aboagye, who serves as Communications Director for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2028 presidential campaign, has questions to answer regarding his previous role in government.
According to the lawmaker, the alleged investigation relates to Mr Aboagye’s tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation.
“As the former Executive Secretary for the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation, he has serious questions to answer that involve fraud,” he said as quoted by adomonline.com.
Mr Bediako, however, clarified that his comments should not be interpreted as a declaration that the former government official is guilty.
“I am not saying he is guilty. He is being interrogated for fraud issues,” he added.
The MP further argued that public officials who have served in government should expect to account for their stewardship when called upon by investigative bodies.
MP Says Former Officials Must Cooperate With Investigators
Mr Bediako said individuals invited by investigators have a responsibility to honour such invitations, adding that failure to do so could justify an arrest.
“If he was invited and failed to honour the invitation, then his arrest could be justified,” he said.
He also referenced previous arrests under the former NPP administration, saying some individuals were detained despite citing ill health.
“We must all know that once you have served in a government, you can be called for accountability. You should be invited, and if you refuse, you should be arrested,” he emphasised.
The comments come amid criticism from some NPP members, who have questioned the circumstances surrounding Mr Aboagye’s arrest and detention by EOCO.
EOCO Expected to Clarify Circumstances of Arrest
Mr Bediako said he expects EOCO to issue an official statement explaining the circumstances surrounding Mr Aboagye’s arrest.
According to him, the agency is expected to clarify whether Mr Aboagye had been invited for questioning before his arrest and whether he honoured any such invitation.
Until EOCO issues an official statement, the claims regarding the alleged fraud investigation remain those of the Akwatia MP. Any clarification from the anti-graft agency is expected to provide greater insight into the reasons behind the arrest and any ongoing investigations.
