A young Ghanaian lawyer, Sara Araba Tettey, has died after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama on Wednesday. The sudden death of the 26-year-old legal practitioner has sent shockwaves through the legal fraternity and among former colleagues from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Ghana School of Law.

According to reports and persons who were with her at the time, Ms Tettey collapsed while celebrating Ghana’s win during a gathering with friends at Standard Hostel in Bomso, near KNUST in Kumasi.

Friends who witnessed the incident said the young lawyer suddenly fell unconscious amid jubilant scenes following Ghana’s victory over Panama.

She was immediately rushed to the KNUST Hospital, popularly known as Tech Hospital, where medical personnel reportedly worked tirelessly to save her life.

Sources indicate that doctors administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for approximately 45 minutes. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Promising Young Lawyer Had Recently Been Called To The Bar

Sara Araba Tettey was a graduate of the KNUST Faculty of Law and was called to the Ghana Bar in October 2025.

She practised as a private lawyer and worked with O & A Legal Consult, where she was building what many believed would be a promising legal career.

Friends and colleagues remember her as hardworking, warm and ambitious. Her death comes less than a year after she officially joined the legal profession, making the loss particularly painful for those who watched her journey unfold.

Legal Community Mourns Sara Araba Tettey

The tragic news has deeply affected members of the legal fraternity, especially within the KNUST law community and among her peers from the Ghana School of Law.

According to a report by Evans Osei-Bonsu of Pure FM, many who knew her personally have been left struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.

Affectionately known as “Araba Tettey”, she was admired by friends and colleagues for her dedication, intelligence and kind nature.

Several mourners have described her passing as the loss of a bright young lawyer whose future in the profession appeared exceptionally promising.

Circumstances Surrounding Death Yet To Be Officially Communicated

Her body has since been deposited at the KNUST Medical School mortuary pending funeral arrangements and further family decisions.

Meanwhile, neither her family nor medical authorities have publicly communicated the official cause of death.

As tributes continue to pour in, many are remembering Sara Araba Tettey not only for her professional achievements but also for the impact she made on those around her during her short but inspiring life.
