Renowned Ghanaian entrepreneur and businessman Dr Daniel McKorley has delivered a thought-provoking message to young people between the ages of 20 and 35, urging them to stop chasing appearances and instead focus on building lasting value.
In a reflective post on social media, Dr McKorley stressed that while life may not feel particularly urgent during those years, they represent one of the most critical periods in determining future success or failure.

According to him, the biggest danger is not that the phase is difficult, but that mistakes made during those years often “compound silently”, with the consequences only becoming obvious much later in life.
“The clock is still moving”
Addressing young adults directly, he encouraged them not to simply skim through motivational messages online without reflecting on their meaning.

“If you are between 20 and 35, please trust me on this. Don’t just read this post, like it, type a comment, share it and just scroll to the next content,” he wrote.
He added:
“You do not drift into a great life. You build into it. And whether you act or not, the clock is still moving.”
The business leader warned that many people spend those formative years trying to impress others through fashion, status, social circles and public validation rather than investing in their own long-term development.

Build yourself before your lifestyle
Dr McKorley argued that lasting success comes from building leverage rather than chasing appearances.

The McDan Group Chairman added that people who ultimately thrive are often those quietly acquiring valuable skills, developing discipline and investing in income-generating assets, while others focus on projecting a successful image.
He noted that upgrading one’s lifestyle before upgrading oneself can become a costly mistake with long-lasting consequences.
“They are stacking skills that pay forever. They are acquiring assets that work while they sleep. They learn things that make them valuable in any room,” he said while describing the habits of people who achieve long-term financial freedom.
A message about delayed rewards
The entrepreneur also highlighted the difficult choices many young adults face between immediate gratification and future security.

In his view, people often have to choose between impressing others in the present or positioning themselves for financial independence later in life.
He suggested that genuine success is rarely accidental but instead the product of intentional decisions made consistently over time.
Looking beyond 40
Ending his message with a sobering reminder, Dr McKorley said a person’s life after the age of 40 is unlikely to be a mystery but rather a reflection of how they used their time between the ages of 20 and 35.
