The Ghana Police Service announced on Monday, June 22, 2026, that Israel Kwadwo Safo reported himself to the Regional Police Headquarters before being handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations into the incident, which occurred on June 21.

Police Recover Firearms And Ammunition
According to police, a search conducted on the suspect’s vehicle and residence at Kwabenya led to the recovery of a significant quantity of ammunition and firearms.
Investigators said they retrieved 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, additional loaded magazines and two Glock pistols. Police noted that one of the pistols is registered in Israel Kwadwo Safo’s name.
The police statement further disclosed that two additional suspects, Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson, have also been arrested in connection with the case.
All three suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be put before court on Tuesday, June 23.

Adwoa Safo Shooting Investigation Widens
The latest arrests come barely a day after police confirmed the arrest of six private security guards linked to the shooting incident.
According to investigators, officers from the National Operations Directorate and Intelligence Directorate responded to a distress call from a residence in Kwabenya where a ceremony was taking place.
Police identified the property as belonging to Mr Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived at the premises and sought access but was denied entry.
Police alleged that armed security personnel stationed at the residence discharged firearms during the confrontation, resulting in injuries to the former legislator.
Authorities also found multiple gunshot marks on her vehicle.
Six Security Guards Already In Custody
Before Monday’s arrests, six private security guards had already been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
Police said a search operation at the scene led to the retrieval of:
- Five pump-action guns
- One Taurus pistol
- Seven rounds of 9mm ammunition loaded in the pistol
- An additional magazine containing five rounds of ammunition
- Communication equipment
The recovered items have been transferred to Police Headquarters for forensic examination.

Adwoa Safo Receiving Medical Treatment
Reports indicate that Adwoa Safo sustained gunshot injuries while seated in a vehicle parked outside her brother’s residence.
Sources familiar with the incident have told local media that her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and that she remains in a stable condition.
The reports claim pellets from a pump-action gun struck parts of her upper body, including areas around her neck and chest.
She was subsequently rushed to hospital, where the family said she was responding to treatment.
Kristo Asafo Leadership Dispute Under Spotlight
The shooting occurred on the same day the Kristo Asafo Mission announced the installation of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I as its new leader.
The organisation described the appointment as a major milestone and publicly congratulated the new leader through its official social media platforms.
Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I is the son of the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
The development has drawn increased attention because it comes amid reports of disagreements over leadership succession following the founder’s death.
While the mission has formally endorsed the new leader, questions remain over whether there is full consensus within the wider organisation and among members of the Safo family. On Monday the family issued a statement, which was signed by Adwoa Safo in her capacity as the head of the family, declaring the said installation null and void, urging the public to ignore it.
What Police Are Investigating Next
Police say investigations remain active as they seek to establish:
- Who fired the weapon that injured Adwoa Safo
- What triggered the confrontation
- Whether additional suspects were involved
- Whether the shooting is linked to the ongoing leadership dispute
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow investigators to complete their work.
As the case heads to court, public attention is expected to remain firmly focused on both the criminal investigation and the unfolding leadership developments within the Kristo Asafo Mission.
