GES Working With Police To Arrest Teacher
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, July 1, 2026, GES Director General Professor Ernest Kofi Davis said the teacher failed to return to work after the allegation surfaced, prompting the Service to suspend his salary while collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to locate him.
Professor Davis disclosed that the teacher had already been interdicted before the salary suspension was imposed because of his continued absence from duty. He said GES intends to pursue both criminal prosecution and disciplinary action under its code of conduct once the suspect is arrested.
The case has reignited concerns about student safety and professional conduct in Ghana’s second cycle schools, with education stakeholders increasingly calling for swift action against teachers who abuse their positions of trust.
“We want to pursue legal action against the staff involved and also take him through our established processes under the code of conduct so that, at the end of the day, we apply the rules as stipulated in our code of conduct,” Professor Davis said.
The alleged incident attracted widespread public attention after a video purportedly showing the inappropriate conduct circulated online, triggering demands for accountability and stronger safeguards for students.

GES Promises Toughest Sanctions
Professor Davis described the alleged misconduct as a serious breach of the ethical standards expected of teachers, stressing that anyone who compromises the safety of students has no place in Ghana’s education system.
He said GES would invoke the toughest sanctions available under its regulations to ensure the case serves as a deterrent to other staff members.
“We will apply the toughest sanctions to serve as a deterrent because we want our school environment to be safe. Teachers who expose children the way we saw in the video have no place in GES,” he stated.

The Ghana Police Service is expected to continue efforts to apprehend the teacher so criminal investigations can proceed.
If arrested, he is expected to face both criminal prosecution and disciplinary proceedings under the GES code of conduct. Should the allegations be established through the appropriate legal and administrative processes, the sanctions could include dismissal from the teaching profession in addition to any penalties imposed by the courts.
