The 2026 FIFA World Cup Ghana broadcast plans have been confirmed, with millions of football fans set to watch the tournament on free-to-air television after the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), with support from the government, unveiled a national broadcast consortium.

The announcement, shared by Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu alongside a statement issued by GBC on 10 June, confirms that the national broadcaster has secured the exclusive terrestrial broadcast rights for the tournament.

“The 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming to a station near you,” the minister wrote while sharing details of the arrangement.

The move is expected to ensure widespread access to football’s biggest tournament, allowing Ghanaians across the country to follow the Black Stars without requiring paid television subscriptions.

2026 FIFA World Cup Ghana Broadcast Confirmed

According to GBC, the initiative fulfils the government’s commitment to ensuring all Ghanaians can watch the FIFA World Cup and support the Black Stars throughout the competition.

To maximise nationwide coverage, GBC has established a National Broadcast Consortium that will operate under a shared technical, marketing and broadcasting framework.

The arrangement also creates significant opportunities for advertisers and sponsors seeking to reach millions of viewers during one of the world’s most-watched sporting events.

Radio Coverage Rules for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Ghana Broadcast

GBC says radio stations interested in broadcasting World Cup matches must first obtain a sub-licence from the corporation.

The broadcaster warned that unauthorised radio broadcasts will not be permitted and urged interested stations to contact its licensing team to secure the necessary rights before the tournament begins.

Advertising Opportunities During the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Describing the FIFA World Cup as the most-watched sporting event globally, GBC said the Ghana TV Consortium will offer sponsorship, advertising and digital engagement packages across television, radio and social media.

The corporation believes the initiative presents an unparalleled opportunity for brands to connect with millions of viewers across Ghana during the tournament.

GBC Warns Against Illegal World Cup Broadcasts

GBC, FIFA and New World TV have also issued a strong warning against unauthorised broadcasts, rebroadcasts, streaming, public viewing exhibitions or commercial distribution of World Cup content within Ghana.

According to the statement, all digital and social media platforms will be actively monitored throughout the tournament, with legal action and regulatory sanctions awaiting any individual or organisation found to be infringing the exclusive rights.
