Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz has dismissed reports that he has resigned as head coach of Ghana’s Black Stars following the team’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The experienced manager clarified that a social media message thanking Ghanaians and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was not a resignation, putting an end to speculation about his future.

Speculation over Queiroz’s future intensified after he shared a message expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead Ghana at the World Cup. Many fans interpreted the post as a farewell statement, with reports suggesting he had stepped down despite still being under contract.
However, the Portuguese tactician has now rejected those claims.
Speaking in a viral social media video while interacting with a fan, Queiroz said:
“I didn’t resign. I sent a message of gratitude.”
His comments indicate that he remains in charge of the Black Stars unless a decision is taken by the Ghana Football Association regarding his contract.

Black Stars’ World Cup campaign ends in last 32
Ghana’s journey at the 2026 FIFA World Cup ended in the round of 32 after a defeat to Colombia. The Black Stars had advanced to the knockout stage after finishing third in their group but were unable to progress further.
Following the elimination, Queiroz thanked the players, officials and supporters for their backing throughout the tournament. The message was widely shared online and quickly fuelled rumours that he was announcing his departure.
His latest clarification suggests the message was intended simply as an expression of appreciation rather than an indication that he was leaving the role.
